Created in rural Louisiana for rural communities.
When friends and Louisiana natives Chris Disher and Jimmy Lewis struggled to find reliable and fast internet service for their rural, south Louisiana homes, the two took matters into their own hands to find a solution to bring connectivity to their neighborhoods that no other telecommunications company could provide.
Initially using fixed-wireless technology from nearby towers, the pair successfully developed a process for delivering high-speed and cost-effective internet service to their homes. Soon, many neighbors asked to be connected to the same tower and switched to the fixed-wireless internet service, and in 2017, Cajun Broadband was born.
The company started with 10 customers, but as word spread through many of south Louisiana's small-town communities, Cajun Broadband's founders felt their mission and business plan were clear - to provide families and businesses with reliable and accessible internet and phone service for a fair price and more importantly, to provide unmatched local customer service. Coverage expansion has continued — now serving nearly 10,000 customers across seven Louisiana parishes.
Connect LA GUMBO Grant Funding
In 2022, Cajun Broadband was selected by the Louisiana Office of Broadband Connectivity and Development to implement almost $20 million in new fiber to home network projects through the Granting Underserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) grant program, providing thousands of new customers with high-speed, broadband service.
Cajun Broadband successfully completed the first GUMBO project in the state of Louisiana, installing 90,000 feet of fiber to connect over 500 previously underserved homes and businesses in St. Martin Parish. The team continues to work diligently to expand fiber access throughout Acadiana and beyond. To learn more about the GUMBO program, visit Connect LA.
